Can you still say it?

What does malding mean?
- 1.
Raging over a game: Visibly, excessively angry about a loss or a small setback, usually in a video game. Said of a sore loser, most often as a tease in stream or game chat.
- 2.
Angry in general: Furious or seething about anything, on or off stream.
- 3.
Rage-inducing: Less often, describing the thing that causes it: a malding game is one built to infuriate.
Malding is being so mad you're going bald, or so the joke goes. A player loses a round, slams the desk, blames the lag and types in capitals. Chat's verdict: he's malding. Nobody's hair is really at stake. The word describes the anger and nothing else.
It is almost always a tease. Said about yourself, "I am fully malding rn" is self-mockery after a bad night. Said to someone who just lost, it's a taunt, and it works as rage bait: the angrier they get, the truer it looks.
The verb is to mald. "Stop malding, it was one missed shot." It has drifted outside games too, so you can mald over a crossword or a parking ticket.
It sits beside its relatives. A tilted player is so frustrated they play worse. A salty one sulks. A crash out is a real loss of control, with consequences. Malding is the loud, harmless middle: fuming at a screen.
By 2026 it is past its 2020 to 2022 peak, but still understood anywhere Twitch chat is spoken.
Where did malding come from?
Malding is the -ing form of mald, a blend of mad and bald, or mad and balding. The current sense came out of the Twitch chat of the Swedish streamer Forsen in 2019. Viewers there spammed a chant that mutated from "so bad, so mad" to "so bald, so mald," and then to the bare word. On June 1st, 2019, Forsen looked the word up on stream because chat kept spamming it, which shows it was already established there. Who first typed it is not recorded.
By 2020 it had left that one channel. That September an esports writer described malding when I lost a board game, with no explanation needed. It is now recorded as Twitch slang for angry about a game, especially of a sore loser. An Urban Dictionary entry for mald from 2011 had a different meaning, a person who is mad and bald.
