What does 67 mean?

The chant: A call shouted for its own sake, usually with both palms up and the hands moving up and down in turn. Someone starts it, a room finishes it.

The trigger: A reflex set off by the digits 6 and 7 turning up anywhere. A page number, a score, a price, a maths answer. The number is the whole cue.

The non-answer: A reply to any question at all. "How was your day?" "67." It fills the slot where an answer goes without putting anything in it.
67 is the rare slang word with nothing inside it. That is not a gap in the research. It is the entry. It was named Word of the Year for 2025 by Dictionary.com, which called it impossible to define, meaningless and nonsensical. The reference books agree it has no fixed meaning. Kids shout it, other kids shout it back, and the joke is that nobody is saying anything.
You will meet a gloss anyway. Some people read it as "so-so" or "maybe this, maybe that", because the hand movement looks like weighing two options. Treat that as a guess worked backwards from the gesture, not a meaning. The references that cover it present the reading the same careful way.
What it really is, is a trigger. Any 6 and any 7 will do it: a page number, a jersey, a bill total. That is why teachers hate it. A maths lesson cannot get past the number without a room full of noise. Some schools banned it. In-N-Out pulled the number 67 out of its ordering system after teenagers mobbed it. In November 2025 the UK prime minister apologised to a headteacher after joining in with pupils, the book in front of him open at pages 6 and 7.
Where did 67 come from?
The trail starts with a song. Philadelphia drill rapper Skrilla, born Jemille Edwards, put out "Doot Doot (6 7)", which repeats "six-seven" as its hook. It circulated from late 2024 and got an official release on 7 February 2025.
What the number meant in the song is unsettled, and the artist is the reason. He has hinted it named a block, and he has also said he never gave it a meaning and would not want to. Both come from his own interviews. So the honest answer is that its first meaning is unclear, and its current meaning is none.
From there it spread through basketball. Edits paired the hook with NBA player LaMelo Ball, listed at 6 feet 7. Overtime Elite player Taylen Kinney repeated it until it stuck. On 31 March 2025 a YouTube clip from an AAU game caught a young player, Maverick Trevillian, yelling "six seven" with the palms-up gesture. He became the 67 Kid. By late October 2025 it was Dictionary.com's Word of the Year, chosen on searches up more than sixfold since that June while other two-digit numbers sat flat.
