Can you still say it?

skibidi is current: in active, unremarkable use. Safe to say right now.

What does skibidi mean?

Skibidi is a wildcard. Said one way it means cool, said another it means bad, and much of the time it means nothing on purpose, which is the joke. It slots in front of other slang as a nonsense booster ("skibidi rizz"), works as a mock swear ("oh my skibidi"), and answers questions it was never asked. Cambridge Dictionary, which added the word in 2025, allows all three readings.

It also works as a label for a whole style of humor. Skibidi is the flagship word of "brainrot," the chaotic, meme-saturated content younger kids grew up on, so calling something skibidi can just mean it belongs to that world. Under-13s say it constantly. Older teens say it ironically. An adult saying it with a straight face ends the joke on the spot, and that is part of the fun. Parents keep asking whether it is a bad word. It is not; it is barely a word.

Where did skibidi come from?

The word comes from Skibidi Toilet, an animated YouTube series by Alexey Gerasimov, a Russian-Georgian animator. The first episode was 11 seconds long and went up on February 7, 2023. The series stages a war between human-headed toilets and camera-headed agents. The toilets sing a sped-up mashup of Timbaland's "Give It to Me" and Biser King's "Dom Dom Yes Yes," and "skibidi" is simply how listeners heard the song's nonsense syllables. The series became one of the biggest things on the internet. Related videos passed 65 billion views by late 2023, and the word floated free as all-purpose kid slang. Cambridge Dictionary added skibidi in August 2025, citing staying power. One footnote: a Russian rave band, Little Big, had a 2018 hit also called "Skibidi," with its own dance challenge. No source connects the two; it appears to be the same nonsense sound invented twice.

Why do kids keep saying skibidi?
Because it is funny, flexible and theirs. It can praise, mock or mean nothing, adults do not get it, and saying it is a small badge of belonging to the joke. That is most of what it does.
